What is Intercollegiate Skating?

We are a team of skaters who compete in individual events while representing UIUC. These events include the men’s and women’s free program, short program, dance, free dance, and team maneuvers. Intercollegiate competitions hold events for skaters of all skill levels - from high beginner to senior - in which each team member will need to prepare a solo program(s). Team maneuvers is a team event involving 3-7 skaters per level group who perform certain elements and get judged along with other collegiate teams.

All skaters are expected to practice regularly, so that we may improve our skills individually and collectively. Our main goal is to allow skaters an opportunity to participate in regional competitions, as well as to foster a fun and supportive environment.

What is the time commitment like?

All skaters are expected to practice at least one freestyle session a week, so that we may improve our skills individually and collectively. Our main goal is to allow skaters an opportunity to participate in regional competitions, as well as to foster a fun and supportive environment. Additionally, we provide members one weekly free practice ice time! In order to maintain official team membership, we require skaters to attend at least one competition per academic year. Competitions take place over a weekend, where our team travels together and competes in an incredibly supportive environment with other collegiate skaters equally passionate about the sport!

What is the annual cost?

The membership fee varies from year to year and is dependent on competition attendance for each skater. However, we always try to decrease it further with our fundraising efforts and school funding.

What if I’m still unsure about joining?

Email us, or come attend a practice session and feel free to ask any of us questions for more detail!
